What is ESOL?
ESOL is an acronym that stands for English for Speakers of Other Languages. It is a term used to describe teaching English, in an English speaking country, to people whose native language is one other than English. This acronym takes into consideration that some learners may already speak a second language. (ESL stands for English as Second Language.)
Why Do We Do This?
We provide this as a service to our community and as an opportunity for us to share God’s love for all people. We want to help others learn to speak English and to learn about American culture so that their experience in the United States will be easier and more enjoyable.
Who Are We?
All lead teachers, helpers, and coordinators of this program are Christian. We are unpaid volunteer workers. Those of us who teach are native English speakers who have received at least 6 hours of training in ESOL.
When Do Classes Meet?
Classes meet Tuesday & Thursday nights 7pm-9pm beginning in September.
Classes will not meet if Loudoun County Public School System is closed due to inclement weather. We have an open enrollment policy so a student may enroll for classes at anytime throughout the session.

Discounted book fees may be given to families and/or those who can show need.
Other Facts and Figures…
This past session, our students represented 19 different countries: Brazil, Columbia, Cuba, Czech Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey, and Venezuela. Our students have been in the United States anywhere from less than 1 week to 30 years!
Volunteer for ESOL!
Unlike opportunities to teach English abroad (such as on a short-term mission trip), you have the opportunity to work with students from a number of different cultures and to form relationships with them over a long period of time. Also, many students have a genuine interest in our culture and they are very eager to learn about it from you, possibly their only native American contact. Most of your students are working class people whose aims are to survive in a country new to them. They live and work right here in our community. Their children attend school with our children. Serving in this ministry, you have the incredible opportunity to demonstrate Christ’s love, to share the Gospel, and to form lasting relationships with some of the students and their extended families. This ministry provides an incredible life-changing experience for everyone who serves. It goes beyond just teaching English. And there are a variety of ways you can serve in this program. No experience or knowledge in a second language is necessary! Classes are taught exclusively in English! And if you don’t want to teach, there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved! Come join us for a couple of nights, get to know our students, and you will be hooked. Guaranteed.
