WEEK 2: DAILY DEVOTIONALS
Monday, January 13th Devotional:
This week in our 21 Days of prayer our focus will be on relationships
The fast we are going to ask you to try to take is a little different but we believe you can do it. We are asking you to take a media fast
Now we know many use their phones for work but the fast we are asking you to try this week is to forego any additional use of your phone or watching TV from 6 pm until 6 am. That’s right, no texting, Facebook, Instagram, Games or favorite TV shows from the time you get off work or school until the next morning.
The purpose of this week is to discover what relationship God wants you to focus on in the year 2020.
Use the time you would normally spend using your phone media or watching TV to begin building relationships.
As you pray this week, ask God to show you what specific relationships you need in your life starting in 2020!
So, start tonight in joining us in a media fast and your prayer for today is – God show me what relationship you want me to be more invested in during 2020.
Tuesday, January 14th Devotional:
Our prayer and relationship focus today is for our spouses
If you don’t have a spouse – then maybe a brother, sister or friend.
Matthew 19:5, Jesus quotes from Genesis when he says – “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.”
“One” in this verse means “being in agreement”.
So that is our prayer focus today – praying for agreement
Are you in agreement about how you;
Handle your finances
Raising your children
How regular you are coming to church
Maybe you don’t realize there is an area where you and your spouse are not in agreement.
Ask the Lord to show you where that is today!
Jesus wanted us to live in unity. First with him, then with each other.
So, your prayer today is to ask the Lord to show you where you and you spouse or family member are not “one” or not in agreement.
Wednesday, January 15th Devotional:
Ecclesiastes tells us - “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.”
Today our prayer focus will be on accountability. Do you have anyone to help you live the life God wants you to live for Him? He knows we need help trying to live for HIm. We need help when we are hurting, help when we face a tough decision and help to keep from sinning.
Do you have a person to help you do this and hold you accountable? If not, let me encourage you to open yourself up to this type of relationship. Start meeting someone on a regular basis and watch what God will do in your life.
King Solomon told us the benefits of having this type of relationship when he wrote – “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”
If you already have person like this – tell them today how thankful you are for them.
If you don’t, your prayer focus is to ask God to show you who this person should be.
Thursday, January 16th Devotional:
The Apostle Paul talked about a type of relationship we need in our life we he said – “I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable and teaching you publicly and from house to house.”
I don’t know about you, but I see Small Groups in that verse. Paul is saying we need to talk about all the “profitable” things with others in a public setting or in a house. We have small groups that do that! Some meet in public like at a restaurant or coffee shop and others meet in homes. They enjoy the fellowship of one another while at the same time declaring all the “profitable” things from the Bible.
Our prayer focus today is about being in a small group! Are you in one? If not, why should you be? It’s simple – they are profitable! We schedule our days around the things that benefit us. A Small Group is something you need to fit into your schedule because of how it will benefit you.
We have small groups for every occasion so look at the Small Group listing at purbap.org and start attending one. All groups listed are open for you to attend. Your prayer prompt is to pray about which small group God wants you to start attending.
Are you ready to add something profitable to your life?
Friday, January 17th Devotional:
The writer of Hebrews tells us about another way we need to be in relationship with one another.
I like the clarity the New Century Version brings to this verse – it says
“You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the day coming.”
When we stay away from going to church, we are depriving ourselves and others of encouragement. That is one of the main reasons we come to church – to be an encourager.
Think of it this way – you could be the only encouragement someone gets all week.
Or you may get the encouragement you have been needing all week!
Our prayer focus today is that God will place in you a desire to regularly attend church.
Also, that He will show you a friend or a couple that you will begin to look forward to seeing each and every week.
You never know a lifelong friend could be just one Sunday away.
